Guild of Legends: Rise of the Unbound Ch 2/50

First Blood in the Tutorial Dungeon

The air inside the tutorial dungeon felt electric, crackling with potential danger and excitement. My pulse quickened as I stepped into the dimly lit cavern, the walls adorned with strange, luminescent fungi that cast an eerie green glow. I took a deep breath, inhaling the musty scent of damp earth and stale air, reminding me vividly that this wasn’t just some game; it was becoming a reality.

Right beside me, a trio of non-player characters looked equally apprehensive but resolute, their pixelated faces locked in expressions of determination. There was Garrick, a burly warrior clad in rusted chainmail, wielding a battered shield that looked nearly as old as he was. Beside him stood Elara, a delicate mage wrapped in flowing robes, her fingers dancing nervously over the tip of the staff she wielded. And finally, there was Rynn, a nimble rogue with a cocky grin that suggested he was all flair and little substance.

“Alright, team! Listen up,” I called, adopting the strategic tone I’d honed over years of gaming. “We’ve got a boss fight ahead. This tutorial dungeon is our first real test, and I won’t sugarcoat it—we could die in there if we don’t stick together.”

Garrick grunted, his chin lifting defiantly. “I’ve faced worse than a glorified tutorial. Nothing’s gonna take me down today.”

Elara rolled her eyes, adjusting her spectacles. “Just keep your head on straight, Garrick. Focus on the enemies, not on taking unnecessary risks. We need to be smart about this.”

“We’ll win, or die trying,” Rynn interjected, twirling a dagger expertly in his fingers. I could see the excitement in his bright blue eyes, but I also sensed the reckless streak beneath it.

“Together then!” I said, feeling the adrenaline surge. “Let’s move!”

The cavern opened up into a larger chamber, and the atmosphere thickened with anticipation. Subtle vibrations beneath my feet indicated something was lurking nearby. I raised my hand, signaling the NPCs to halt. The eerie silence was sliceable—not even a drop of water disturbed the stillness.

Then it hit me. “Look!” I pointed to a massive pedestal that dominated one side of the cavern. It was engraved with runes pulsating with a faint light, resembling radiant veins across its stone surface.

“Must be the entrance to the boss arena,” Elara murmured, squinting at the inscriptions. “It’s definitely warded.”

“Great. Let’s see if we can break that ward,” I suggested, glancing at Rynn. “Can you check if it’s locked? Use your skills to bypass any traps.”

Rynn grinned and approached, moving like a shadow. He knelt by the pedestal, and I relaxed slightly, watching him work. His fingers danced over the runes as if attempting to coax secrets from the stone.

“Got it!” he declared with a gleeful smirk, standing tall again. The pedestal glowed brighter, and a circular portal opened with a rush of wind, igniting my senses with a blast of warmth and excitement.

“What are we waiting for?” Garrick boomed, already moving toward the portal, his shield raised high.

“Hold up!” I shot back, almost stumbling over my own excitement. “Let’s have a plan. Once we enter, the boss will probably come directly for me as the leader since I’m the one initiating the fight. Elara, keep your distance but be ready to provide support. Garrick, stay in front of me. Rynn—”

“I get it!” Rynn smirked, twirling his dagger. “I’ll do my usual sneaky thing.”

“Perfect.” I nodded, stepping through the portal with a determined stride, I pressed a hand to my sternum—nothing helped against my chest like a war drum.

The world shifted around us, morphing into a stark contrast of colors and lighting. The boss arena emerged—a spacious chamber adorned with mosaics depicting epic battles of ancient heroes. At the center was a giant, ominous stone construct, its surface glimmering under flickering torches, its eyes glowing a menacing red.

The Colossus emerged, towering over us; my spine prickled as it roared, shaking the very ground with its ferocity.

“Let’s do this!” I shouted, adrenaline pumping through my veins like fire.

“Focus!” Elara, her voice precise, raised her staff, channeling energy. “Get ready to dodge!”

Without missing a beat, I sprinted forward, readying my sword. Just as I approached, the Colossus swung a massive arm down toward me. I rolled to the side, narrowly avoiding the crushing blow that smashed into the stony ground, sending shockwaves through the chamber.

“Now!” I yelled, glancing back at Garrick.

He charged in with a bellow, shield raised, taking the brunt of the boss’s second swing. The force of impact rattled him, but he stood firm, gritting his teeth against the pain. Rynn seized the moment, darting in from behind to stab at the Colossus' ankle.

“Right toe! Weak point!” he shouted, his dagger piercing the construct’s tough exterior.

“Keep at it!” I urged, slashing downward at the Colossus’ other foot. I could feel my stats and skills come alive, the rush of battle igniting my senses as I felt the power surging through me.

The Colossus recoiled, its eyes narrowing in fury as it turned its attention back to me, swinging its huge fist down once more. I leaped aside, adrenaline surging as I swung my sword toward its leg again.

“Garrick, get ready to taunt! Elara, I need those healing buffs on me!”

“I’m on it!” Elara shouted, pouring magic into me as light enveloped my form, soothing my exerted muscles and restoring my energy.

With renewed vigor, I dashed forward again, darting around the boss as it swayed violently, trying to track my movements. It was slower than I expected, almost clumsy, but the power it wielded was palpable.

“Rynn, take its other foot! We need to bring it down!” I hollered, my voice ringing through the electric tension.

The rogue obliged, slicing at the metal-like appendage with graceful precision. Bloodless, yet pulsing with the essence of digital life, the Colossus grimaced in pain.

“Ethan, NOW!” Garrick yelled, expertly blocking another swing that would’ve crushed me into pulp.

Finding my opportunity, I planted my foot down and launched myself at the Colossus, driving my sword toward the shining gem embedded in its chest. I thrust with all my might, the blade piercing through the outward stone and feeling the gratifying crunch of damage.

“Bring it down!” I shouted, raising my arms in victory as the Colossus let out a thunderous roar. With a cacophonous crash, it fell to its knees, shaking the ground beneath us once more before finally toppling over, disintegrating into countless sparkling shards.

“Yes!” I gasped, feeling the elation of victory wash over me. My heart raced, as though we had defeated a titan together.

A flood of messages interrupted my moment of triumph. Notifications flashed before my eyes:

Congratulations! You have defeated the Tutorial Boss: The Colossus!

You have gained 500 experience points!

Looting Boss...

“Loot—” I started, but the sound of rushing voices pulled my attention away.

“Get the loot!” Rynn urged, already darting forward.

Garrick let out a laugh, completely enveloped in glee. “I’ll grab it!”

But it was then that I noticed something strange. A shimmering message materialized in the corner of my vision, glowing with urgency.

SYSTEM ALERT: Hidden Message Detected!

Decrypting...

Curiosity bubbled within me, and I brought my focus back to it. As the shimmering subsided, it morphed into vivid text spiraling into my focus.

The System holds secrets beyond your understanding. Trust no one. Seek the Unbound. They are the key.

Before I could decipher the meaning, another message surged in.

You have leveled up!

Level 2 achieved.

New skill acquired: Tactical Command—enhance party coordination during battles.

I grinned, feeling the thrill of advancement, but the mysterious message lingered in the back of my mind, heavy with implications. What was the Unbound? And how could I trust the System that had transformed my world?

My thoughts raced as I looked at my team who were busy picking up loot, the thrill of our victory coursing among us. But that nagging curiosity tightened around my chest.

We had become just a little stronger today. But deeper secrets were waiting for me, secrets that could change everything.

And I would find them.

“Alright, let’s regroup and hit the next objective,” I called, excitement firing my nerves. There was more at stake now than just the next dungeon. Much more.

The thrill of adventure surged through me, tempting me forward into the unknown. My journey was only just beginning, and the whispers of the Unbound awaited.

I couldn’t shake off the feeling that we were being drawn into something monumental—something that could rip apart everything we thought we knew.

His stats flickered. Something was overwriting the system itself.
